XD is used for local Adobe XD design documents, including components and prototype links. Adobe XD is in maintenance mode; establish the available environment and export route, preserving originals during migration.

Opening steps

Adobe XD in an available compatible environment

Preserve the original and inspect a working copy in a compatible application.

Open a local document copy in an available Adobe XD environment.
Inspect screens, components, fonts and prototype connections.
Manage local originals separately from cloud documents and shared links.

Inspect the received file and its requirements

Establish dependencies and settings before proceeding.

Determine whether delivery is an XD file or a cloud sharing URL.
Identify producer version and available accounts/app access.
Check access to linked assets and libraries.

Menu labels and support vary by app, OS and version. Preserve the original before making changes.

Troubleshooting by symptom

App unavailable: request PDF/images or suitable migration deliverables.
Text differs: inspect missing fonts and substitutions.
Shared link is not editable: check sharing purpose and permissions.
Prototype links disappear on migration: exported formats may not preserve them.

XD → SVG / PNG / PDF

Export required artboards/assets and document interaction behavior separately.
Check screen dimensions, text, assets and interaction specifications absent from the export.

SVG/images/PDF do not fully preserve XD prototypes, collaboration or component behavior.

Transfer appearance and behavior separately

Static images do not explain navigation, input conditions or component states. During migration, record actions and destinations using screen identifiers and agree on behavior.
