Executables & Installers

bundletool or compatible development tools

Preserve the original and inspect a working copy in a compatible application.

  1. Identify the source and generation workflow.
  2. Inspect set composition and target conditions with compatible tools.
  3. Use a supported installation workflow only for an established development/testing task.
Inspect the received file and its requirements

Establish dependencies and settings before proceeding.

  1. Inspect device Android/CPU requirements.
  2. Check package identity, version and signing within the set.
  3. Establish whether required splits/features are present.

Menu labels and support vary by app, OS and version. Preserve the original before making changes.

Troubleshooting by symptom

  • Renaming to APK fails: it is a set rather than one APK.
  • Base-only install fails: inspect required resource/other splits.
  • Cannot update existing app: compare ID, version and signature.
  • Another device incompatible: inspect generated device targeting.

APKS → device-appropriate APK group

  1. Use supported tooling to select and handle the complete device-appropriate APK group.
  2. Verify consistent build/signing, required splits and launch on the target device.

An arbitrary extracted APK may not work, and the original AAB need not be fully recoverable.

Preserve split combinations

Apps can split core, language, density and CPU components. Do not mix similarly named APKs from other builds; establish one generated set and consistent signing.

Worked example: checks before handoff

Example: before repeatedly reinstalling the base APK, inspect whether the failing device received its ABI/resource splits.

Questions and answers

Is APKS just an APK with a plural suffix?

It is a separate set structure containing APKs and selection metadata.

May I send only base.apk?

Not when required splits exist; follow the producer’s supported workflow.

Can I mix splits from different builds?

Version/signing must be consistent; use a matching set from one generation.
