QGIS Style or Qt QML Document

Maps & GPS

QML has unrelated QGIS-style and Qt-UI uses. A QGIS QML is not the map payload; identify producer and text structure first.

QGIS or a Qt-capable editor

Preserve the original and inspect a working copy in a compatible application.

  1. Inspect QGIS XML versus Qt import/declarative syntax.
  2. For QGIS, load the matching data layer first.
  3. Apply QML using the layer style-loading command.
Inspect the received file and its requirements

Establish dependencies and settings before proceeding.

  1. For Qt, inspect it as code in a suitable IDE.
  2. For QGIS, match attributes and geometry type.
  3. Check symbol images and fonts.

Menu labels and support vary by app, OS and version. Preserve the original before making changes.

Troubleshooting by symptom

  • No map: obtain the separate dataset.
  • No colors: compare classification field names.
  • Qt error: ensure it is not QGIS XML.
  • Symbols missing: check external SVG/font assets.

QML → producer-appropriate output

  1. For QGIS export the styled map; for Qt use the project’s build workflow.
  2. Reopen the output and check it against the preservation points in this guide before handoff.

A QGIS style cannot reconstruct geometry or convert into Qt QML.

The two QML uses are not interchangeable

QGIS XML and Qt’s declarative language use different processors; do not run unknown files merely to identify them.

Worked example: checks before handoff

Example: pair a supplied map style with its GeoPackage and matching attributes.

Questions and answers

Only a QGIS format?

Qt uses the same suffix differently.

Contains the map?

QGIS styles reference separate datasets.

Can Qt QML execute code?

It can contain JavaScript behavior.
