TIFF Image
ImagesTIF is the shorter TIFF suffix. Scanned documents may have several pages, while print files may use CMYK or high bit depths. Inspect all pages, color and compression before sharing or exporting; the suffix alone does not guarantee lossless content.

Troubleshooting by symptom
- Only one page appears: check multipage support against the original page count.
- Color shifts: inspect RGB/CMYK and profiles, then follow the printer’s requirements.
- Oversized file: check dimensions, bit depth and application limits, including variant support such as BigTIFF.
- Only one page converts: a single-image export may include only the first page. Count pages first.
- Different color or tones: check color mode, profiles and bit-depth support.
- Changing TIF to TIFF does not help: these normally denote the same format; investigate compression or damage.
TIFF → PNG / JPEG / PDF
- Export PNG/JPEG copies and check each required page.
- For a document, use a PDF-capable application and verify page count, order and resolution.
- Compare page count/order before and after conversion and verify OCR if text search is required.
TIFF supports multiple compression methods, including lossy options; its suffix does not guarantee lossless content.
Preserving a multi-page scan
Record page count and order before conversion. Single-image export and image-sharing services may not handle a multi-page document.
After PDF conversion inspect blank pages, rotation, front/back order and readability; verify OCR accuracy if applied.

Selecting storage options
TIFF permits several depth and compression options. Inspect the settings rather than assuming every TIFF is lossless.
Keep the print/high-bit master when creating JPEG copies and compare color and tonal changes.

Related-format differences
| Format | Main role | Selection notes |
|---|---|---|
| TIF / TIFF | Images / multi-page documents | Check page / compression support |
| Document distribution | Image PDFs may need OCR | |
| JPEG / PNG | Individual-image sharing | Do not treat all pages as one image |
Handling and security
Scans can contain addresses or signatures. Review every page before sharing and avoid unauthorized cloud uploads.
Questions and answers
Must I distinguish TIF from TIFF?
Usually they are the same image format. Check compression, page count and BigTIFF support rather than the suffix.
Is TIFF automatically high quality?
Quality depends on source resolution and encoding; TIFF cannot restore absent detail.
Does one JPEG retain all TIFF pages?
No; export pages individually or use a multipage document format.
Does TIF-to-PDF make text searchable?
An image-only PDF is not searchable; apply OCR where needed and verify recognition.
Does TIFF always retain layers?
It depends on the application and settings; the reader must also support those layers.
