Troubleshooting by symptom
- Missing Japanese glyphs: check character/language coverage.
- Absent in app: check installation scope, restart and internal font name.
- Wrong weight/appearance: compare style, duplicate versions and recipient fonts.
- Filename absent from the font list: look for the internal family name shown in the preview.
- Japanese looks different: inspect glyph coverage and font fallback.
- Same-name fonts differ: inspect versions and which duplicates are enabled.
TTF → web font / other formats
- Check web embedding/conversion rights and prefer publisher-provided web files.
- If permitted, use compatible conversion and verify glyphs, hinting, typography and target browsers.
- Inspect glyphs, style names and typography after conversion and consult licensing for distribution/embedding.
Conversion can affect typography/rendering and does not expand redistribution rights.
TTF and OpenType
A TTF can include OpenType features. Inspect specifications/application support rather than ranking features by suffix.
For isolated Japanese-glyph differences, inspect coverage and fallback.

Sharing documents with another device
Missing fonts can be substituted. Inspect PDF rendering and embedding conditions.

Related-format differences
| Format | Main role | Selection notes |
|---|---|---|
| TTF | TrueType-oriented font file | Inspect features and glyph coverage |
| OTF | OpenType-oriented font file | Do not rank quality by suffix |
| WOFF2 | Web-delivery font | Inspect web rights and support |
Handling and security
Obtain fonts from authentic publishers and validate them; scrutinize unfamiliar installer executables.
Questions and answers
Does every TTF include Japanese?
Coverage differs by font.
May I send the font to a recipient?
Check redistribution licensing.
Does renaming it OTF convert it?
No; internal structure/outlines do not change.
Is TTF lower quality than OTF?
The suffix alone does not determine quality. Inspect glyphs, coverage, features and the environment.
May I send the font file to someone?
Consult redistribution rights; purchasing or installing does not necessarily permit sharing the file.
