Ableton Live Set

Creative Projects

ALS is an Ableton Live Set, often referencing separate samples. Distinguish a Set from its Project folder and collect assets with Collect All and Save. Check receiving Live and plug-in versions too.

Example: a practical checking sequence

Example: transferring ALS alone causes missing media. Open the original Set, collect assets and transfer the complete Project. Check Live version/devices and compare a reference mix. Ordinary reference-saving is not necessarily a complete media backup.

Opening steps

Choose your environment or purpose to see its steps.

Open a Set in Live

Preserve the original Project folder.

  1. Copy the Project and open ALS in Live.
  2. Inspect missing-media and device warnings.
  3. Check clips, arrangement and tempo and save separately.
Collect before transferring

Ordinary saving may retain references rather than media copies.

  1. Open on the original system and resolve missing assets.
  2. Use Collect All and Save to copy required media into the Project.
  3. Transfer the complete Project folder and verify playback.

Menu labels and support vary by app, OS and version. Preserve the original before making changes.

Troubleshooting by symptom

  • Missing media: locate moved samples and check collection into the Project.
  • Missing plug-ins require separate installations and licenses.
  • Newer Live Set: check version and edition requirements.
  • Different timing or sound: compare Warp, devices and assets with a reference.
  • Only ALS received: request the complete Project and media.

ALS → audio or a complete Project

  1. Check range, tracks and devices.
  2. Use Export Audio/Video for listening or collected Projects for editing.
  3. Verify audio duration and the receiving Set’s dependencies.

Collection does not install third-party plug-ins; rendered audio does not retain the Set’s editing structure.

Set versus Project

A Project may contain multiple Sets. Transfer at Project level to retain shared assets.

Resolve missing media before saving

Saving a Set with missing media does not recreate audio; locate source assets through supported file management.

  • Select external media for collection.
  • Record Live version and devices.
  • Compare against a reference mix.
