Audacity project

Creative Projects

AUP3 is an Audacity editing database, not an MP3 or WAV. It preserves tracks and editing state. This guide covers playback misunderstandings, database errors, transfers and audio export.

Example: a practical checking sequence

Example: export listenable audio from Audacity rather than using a player on AUP3. If database errors occur, preserve the original and companions first; do not delete WAL files casually. Verify recovered tracks/duration and retain both audio and editable project.

Opening steps

Choose your environment or purpose to see its steps.

Resume editing in Audacity

Use an Audacity version supporting AUP3.

  1. Copy locally and check size and download completion.
  2. Select AUP3 with File → Open.
  3. Check tracks and playback and save changes separately.
If a database error appears

Never experiment on the sole original.

  1. Preserve the source and associated temporary files from the same location.
  2. Check whether the project is still open or incompletely synced.
  3. Check backups and recovery, then consult official project-tool requirements if needed.

Menu labels and support vary by app, OS and version. Preserve the original before making changes.

Troubleshooting by symptom

  • Music-player rejection is expected; export audio from Audacity.
  • Database errors: distinguish permissions, incomplete syncing and missing data.
  • Renaming to MP3 cannot change database structure.
  • Copies made during editing can be inconsistent; finish saving and close before transfer.
  • Recovery is incomplete: compare tracks and duration and save recovered results separately.

AUP3 → WAV / MP3

  1. Open and check the intended range and mute states.
  2. Use Export Audio to save WAV or MP3 separately.
  3. Check duration, loudness, beginning and end in a player.

Rendered audio does not preserve editable track structure; retain AUP3.

Project saving versus audio export

Saving enables continued editing; export creates listenable audio. Ask which the recipient needs.

Recover only from copies

Database side files and save state can matter; do not casually delete WAL or other companions.

Official tools do not guarantee complete recovery; preserve copies and verify recovered audio.
