Example: a practical checking sequence
Example: an ASE sprite fails swatch import. Identify Adobe exchange versus Aseprite document. Open artwork in Aseprite and export PNG/GIF separately; import actual palettes through Swatches. The identical suffix does not imply identical contents or conversion.

Menu labels and support vary by app, OS and version. Preserve the original before making changes.
Troubleshooting by symptom
- Adobe rejects it: check whether it is an Aseprite document.
- Aseprite rejects it: check whether it is a swatch-exchange file.
- Patterns or gradients are absent: ASE swatch exchange has exclusions.
- Color differs: check modes and profiles.
- Sprite animation is missing: inspect frames, playback and export range.
Choose output by the ASE variant
- Identify the producer and use the appropriate app.
- Export palettes through supported exchange, or sprites to PNG/GIF/sprite sheets.
- Verify colors or frames and alpha at the destination.
Do not identify data by suffix alone. PNG does not preserve the full sprite document, and swatch ASE contains no artwork layout.
Adobe ASE scope
Adobe exchange shares supported solid swatches; gradients and patterns are not all transferable. Verify the chosen swatches.

- Check frame range and playback direction.
- Check alpha and pixel scaling.
