glTF 3D Model
CAD & 3DGLTF uses a JSON document that may reference separate geometry buffers and images. Sharing only the document may omit essential resources; preserve its referenced folder structure.

Troubleshooting by symptom
- No model: check referenced buffers and case-sensitive paths.
- White materials: inspect image locations and extension support.
- Compressed asset fails: inspect required decoders/extensions.
- Geometry without color: inspect image URIs, relative paths and case sensitivity.
- BIN missing: restore the GLTF/resource directory relationship.
- A particular viewer rejects it: inspect required extensions and compression support.
GLTF → GLB
- Import with all resources and export using GLB-capable software.
- Test the GLB separately and inspect external references, images and motion.
- Reimport using only the output bundle and inspect missing buffers, images, extensions and animation.
External resources may remain after GLB export; verify the actual package.
GLTF, BIN and image relationships
GLTF JSON describes the scene/resources. External buffers or images must accompany it.
After GLB export, inspect tool settings and test whether external dependencies remain.

Editing information that may not transfer
glTF is oriented toward delivery/display; native nodes and modifiers may not remain editable.
Keep the native project and inspect appearance, orientation, materials and motion in the destination.

Related-format differences
| Format | Main role | Selection notes |
|---|---|---|
| GLTF | JSON-based 3D structure | Include external resources |
| GLB | Binary 3D container | Inspect output references |
| BLEND / FBX | Native source / exchange | Editing information may differ |
Handling and security
Review external URLs and texture rights; retain the source package and validate references after edits.
Questions and answers
Is the GLTF alone sufficient?
Not when buffers/images are external.
Does renaming to JSON show the model?
Text inspection is not 3D rendering.
What are required extensions?
Additional features the viewer must support to load the asset.
Can I rename GLTF to GLB?
JSON and binary representations differ; export with a compatible application.
Is GLTF always multiple files?
Resources can be external or embedded; inspect actual URIs and documentation.
