OneNote section
DocumentsONE stores a OneNote section, not necessarily an entire notebook. A local ONE cannot simply be treated as a web or mobile notebook. Use current Windows OneNote to inspect it, then choose page export or notebook sharing.

Example: a practical checking sequence
Example: one ONE file from a colleague may be only one section. Ask about the remaining notebook, inspect pages and attachments in current Windows OneNote, and choose notebook sharing or PDF delivery. Copying it into ordinary cloud storage is not equivalent to shared-notebook access.

Menu labels and support vary by app, OS and version. Preserve the original before making changes.
Troubleshooting by symptom
- Uploading a file does not create a shared OneNote notebook.
- Only part of the notebook is present: ONE is section-level data; ask for the remaining sections.
- Sync fails: check permissions, account, network and sync errors; do not delete files as a first fix.
- The old Windows 10 app is read-only: check migration to current OneNote.
- Attachments are absent: compare with the source; a PDF does not necessarily include embedded file contents.
Deliver selected pages as PDF
- Open the section and pages in supported OneNote.
- Use the available export or print-to-PDF function.
- Check long-page breaks and provide required attachments separately.
PDF does not retain OneNote editing, syncing or notebook structure. Preserve the original notebook.
Notebook, section and page
A notebook contains sections, each with pages; a single ONE does not prove that the whole notebook was delivered.
Document the notebook name and storage location as well as the section name; links may reference other notebooks.

Current app and web limitations
OneNote for Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025; distinguish it from current Windows OneNote.
Microsoft’s web notebook import is deprecated. Use current sharing and migration workflows rather than older browser-import instructions.

Handling and security
Notebooks can contain personal data, emails and attachments. Limit sharing permissions and inspect content before public sharing or online conversion.
