PowerPoint desktop add-in manager

Preserve the original and inspect a working copy in a compatible application.

  1. Review the publisher’s installation and signing information.
  2. Choose a copy through PowerPoint’s add-in manager.
  3. Test added commands in a disposable presentation.
Inspect the received file and its requirements

Establish dependencies and settings before proceeding.

  1. Match OS and required PowerPoint version.
  2. Check external libraries, authentication and network requirements.
  3. Check managed-device deployment policy.

Menu labels and support vary by app, OS and version. Preserve the original before making changes.

Troubleshooting by symptom

  • No slides: verify that you received an add-in.
  • No button: check loaded state and ribbon placement.
  • Loading blocked: check signing, version and policy.
  • Fails elsewhere: inspect libraries and OS differences.

PPAM → documents produced by the add-in

  1. Ask the author for the resulting PPTX/PDF if you need the presentation.
  2. Reopen the output and check it against the preservation points in this guide before handoff.

Renaming PPAM to PPTX does not create an ordinary deck.

Distinguish the tool from its output

Store-delivered Office add-ins and VBA-based PPAM do not necessarily use the same installation route.

Worked example: checks before handoff

Example: generate one chart in a test PPTX, save it and check recipient viewing without the add-in.
