Affinity Designer Document

Creative Projects

AFDESIGN is an Affinity Designer document that may contain raster content and multiple artboards as well as vectors. Keep editable originals separate from web/print exports. Inspect fonts, effects, artboard range and color before SVG/PDF export.

Opening steps

Choose your environment or purpose to see its steps.

Affinity Designer: open an editable document

Open a copy of the editable source.

  1. Identify producer/version and prepare a document copy with required companions.
  2. Open the document copy in compatible Affinity Designer.
  3. Inspect artboards, curves, text, placed images and color.
Inspect Vector design information

Inspect editable information as well as appearance.

  1. Distinguish vector and pixel elements and inspect missing fonts/placed images.
  2. Compare images and text with the reference render.
  3. Save a separate native-format copy and reopen to inspect editing state.
Export for another app, web or print

Retain editing source and rendered output.

  1. Check artboard/selection scope and the purpose of SVG, PDF or PNG output.
  2. Select dimensions, color, transparency and text/effect retention settings.
  3. Open the result in another application and inspect appearance/required information.

Menu labels and support vary by app, OS and version. Preserve the original before making changes.

Troubleshooting by symptom

  • Font substitution: inspect installed fonts and sharing/embedding rights.
  • Rasterized elements: check effect compatibility and rasterization settings.
  • Missing pages: inspect artboard/export selection.
  • Wrong artboard exported: inspect whole-document, selection and artboard scope.
  • Transparency lost: inspect format and transparent-background export settings.
  • Color/text changes elsewhere: inspect profiles, fonts and feature compatibility.

AFDESIGN → SVG / PDF / PNG

  1. Preserve the document and define artboards and web/print purpose.
  2. Export separately and check type, strokes, effects, color and dimensions in the destination app.
  3. Inspect export dimensions, color, transparency, text and cropping against the editable source.

SVG/PDF may lose editing features; PNG becomes pixels. Retain the native document.

Native saving versus export

AFDESIGN stores editable design information; raster output does not preserve equivalent curves or editable text.

Formats differ in retained layers/effects; include native source when further editing is required.

Post-export comparison

Compare dimensions, thin strokes, text, color and transparency; inspect changes from resizing or conversion.

Record reference render, application version and required fonts and verify compatibility using a copy.
